Dementia Map Dave Wiederrich, Co-Founder Lori La Bey, Co-Founder Q: What is the company vision? A: Level the dementia caregiving playing field. Our goal is to make all types of valuable resources easily discoverable. By doing so, we are helping brands increase their visibility with a motivated audience who needs the products and services being provided. Q: Does your company have core values or a culture you want us to know about? A: Both co-founders have been touch by dementia through family and friends. We strive every day to provide access to the kinds of resources we wish we had, and in such a way that is easy to discover and access. Q: How did your company start, what is the backstory?A: Co-founders Dave Wiederrich and Lori La Bey have known each other for years. Dave listens to Lori's podcast, Alzheimer's Speaks. (AlzheimersSpeaks.com) After hearing for quite some time how frustrated Lori was by not having a centralized dementia resource directory, Dave asked Lori, "Why don't we build one?" Lori has extensive dementia experience and Dave has some experience, but knows all about building websites and communication. The perfect match! Lori and Dave pooled their respective global audiences to allow Dementia Map a very successful launch in November 2020. Lori's work as a podcast host, speaker, trainer, and consultant has built a global audience. Dave's Memory Cafe Directory (MemoryCafeDirectory.com) is a centralized directory of Memory Cafes (dementia-friendly events) and has over 1,000 listings in 5 countries. They both promote Dementia Map through their websites, podcasts, newsletters, and social media. Q: What product does your company offer? A: Dementia Map Global Resource Directory. (DementiaMap.com) In addition to a resource directory with over 150 different product and service categories, Dementia Map offers an Events Calendar, a dementia Glossary, and a blog. Q: What are 3 important things to know about the company? A: 1) Dementia resources come in both large AND small packages. While there are paid membership plans that provide members with extensive brand visibility, there will ALWAYS be a no-cost plan. Providing a free plan allows very small companies and even individuals with a personal blogs sharing valuable perspectives to be a part of Dementia Map. 2) Caregivers can't know what they don't know. We purposely created over 150 categories of resources in 7 functional areas: Activities, Education, Housing, Media, Products, Support Services, and Business to Business (B2B.) The reason? We want people to know there is help available, even if they didn't know that type of support existed. 3) Dementia Map is the resource Lori wishes she had when her mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's - and she lived with it for 30 years! Q: What did you do when the pandemic hit? How did you Pivot? A: We launched Dementia Map November 10, 2020. From the beginning, we wanted to create an online directory available 24/7 to both caregivers and individuals living with dementia. While many of the resources listed are available virtually, many are also geography-based. These deliver direct services and/or have a "brick and mortar" presence.
